Gyeongbok Palace, Seoul, South Korea

Built during the Joseon-era, Gyeongbok Palace also known as Gyeongbokgung is the largest of the five grand palaces. The palace was home to the Kings of Joseon dynasty.

The palace is huge and even with the large amount of visitors it welcomes, you can still feel the tranquility. It is one of my favourite palaces to visit in Seoul. ♥

Everland, Gyeonggi, South Korea

Everland Theme Park is one of the largest theme parks in South Korea. I wouldn’t call it a theme park because it’s not exactly only a theme park. Everland has so many things for its visitors I would suggest either starting really early in the day or spend two days in Everland.

There is the theme park with roller coasters (and the famous T-Express!) and there’s also a hologram concert hall which was playing 2NE1 and Psy’s hologram concerts. There’s also a zoo in its premises. A ZOO. It’s not a mini zoo or anything but an actual life-sized zoo with all the animals you can think of – lions, zebras, you name it I’m sure they’ve got it.

Despite visiting Everland twice, I could never cover the entire Everland each visit. There is just so much to do and so much to see!

Best part is, Everland is suitable for families and children of all ages.

Namdaemun Market, Seoul

Namdaemun Market is the largest Korean traditional market. There’s a variety of traditional and handmade goods to look and maybe, buy. It sells everything – pots and kitchens to luggage and even textiles to decorate your home with!

Some of the store owners can speak English, but let me just say, they were few. We were lucky to have come across friendly and approachable owners like Mdm Mong Sil (above). She was really patient and really helpful too! Her items are all handmade and very colourful! My friend spent a whole lot at her shop because a) she’s nice, b) her items were pretty. She also gave my friends discounts and threw in a few freebies because they really bought a lot!

We love her a lot! ♥

N Seoul Tower, Seoul

N Seoul Tower view of Seoul, South Korea. Visited: 30 November 2013

The N Seoul Tower sits right at the top of Namsan mountain. It gives a fantastic 360 view of Seoul.

There are 2 ways to get around Namsan and to the top of the tower:

  1. Hike your way up Namsan (with good stamina and walking shoes, this is really a good way to relax and enjoy a slow breathtaking walk up Namsan)
  2. Take a cable car from the foot of Namsan

It was our first time to Namsan and we weren’t sure where the cable car was. I remember asking a few Korean people for help – they’re all really helpful – and two people gave us two separate directions and information. One of them said that the walk up Namsan isn’t very long, and it’s just right up the stairs. The other told us to look for the cable car.

The sun was almost setting. We weren’t in our right minds – or should I say I wasn’t in the right mind. Since we didn’t really know where to find the cable car station and the tower is just right up the stairs, I accidentally treated my mum to a fat-burning 1.5 hours hike up Namsan. Heh. It was unintentional. My mum was mad. Her knees ached so bad. It wasn’t my fault. The kind girl said “It was just right up the stairs”.

I think the walk up is fine – there’s a lot of stairs… many actually… Every time I thought we were reaching, we weren’t.

But it was a scenic walk! I recommend route 1 because if you wanna feel Korean, you gotta walk those stairs. So many couples and families do it. Be healthy. (: ♥

I like how tradition is preserved in Seoul. Stepping into Namsangol Hanok Village feels like I’m being transported back in time into the Joseon-era. A must visit for any culture-lovers.

Big Ben, London, UK

Big Ben & The Palace of Westminster, London, United Kingdom. Visited: 16 June 2012.

The first independent-living experience. No teachers, no parents. Just my classmates and I.

2012 was a breakthrough year for me. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me because only selected students could visit London for a clinical placement. I was lucky to be the privileged few.

June 2012 & London will always have a special place in my heart. ♥
